Introduction
The Senegal unit was created on March 26, 2006.
Unit’s status: the unit uses the Network’s Récépissé.
The unit’s objectives are the following:
- implementation of the Network’s orientations at national level;
- formulation, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Network’s action programs at national level;
- search for technical and financial partners;
- mobilization of resources;
- creation of spaces of dialog and actions to promote and advocate ESC rights-related themes.
Unit’s mission ESC rights’ promotion, advocacy and realization at national level.
Unit’s internal organization and functioning
The unit’s organization is based on these three bodies:
- the Members’ General Assembly
- the Unit National Coordination (Coordination nationale de la cellule), governing body composed of a national coordinator and one (1) finance coordinator, 1 communication and foreign affairs coordinator, and 1 ESC rights promotion, studies and training coordinator;
- the secretary.
The Members’ General Assembly shall meet once a year. Besides their annual meeting, the unit members meet every trimester to debate on the life of their organization. The Unit National Coordination meets once a month and as many times as needed. The Pemanent Secretary takes part in the Coordination’s meetings as a secretary and contact facilitator.
Regarding the financial aspects: The unit opened a bank account at the Crédit Mutuel of Senegal with three signatories. The disbursements will be based on the principle of double signature, between the Unit National Coordination’s director, the finance coordinator and/or the secretary.
Currently, the Senegal Unit’s headquarters are at the ADPES. They might move to a complete different place upon decision of the Members’ General Assembly. The meeting places could nevertheless vary depending on the Unit National Coordination’s wish; The Unit National Coordination will be changing every year, yet with a possibility of being renewed upon consensus.
a/ Quality of unit member
On that matter, the unit is ready to welcome all legally recognized associative structures (support and grassroots structures, etc.), including NGOs interested in ESC rights - and more generally human rights – issues. In any case, each application file will be examined by the Unit National Coordination.
b/ Practical details to become a unit member
Written application addressed to the Unit Coordinator along with the following documents: copy of official recognition documents, activity report for the last two (02) years.
Unit’s main results
- Set-up of the National Unit in March 2006;
- Development of an action plan in progress;
- Creation of a presentation brochure;
- Creation of an awareness raising booklet;
- Clothes for the press campaign;
- Organization of 6 talk sessions: 2 by the GRAIDE, 2 by the RADI, 1 by the ADPES, 1 jointly organized by the RADI and the ADPS;
- Drafting of a strategic document for setting up a ESC rights platform;
- Development of a ESC rights project for the unit.

Objectives:
- contribute to the understanding of urban dynamics of struggle against poverty;
- encourage the self-promotion capacity building of women’s, young people’s and gender-neutral organizations;
- help improve living conditions and environments, help protect and manage the environment,
- contribute to the ESC rights promotion.
Mission
Take part at local and national levels in the identification and implementation of activities resolutely oriented towards the struggle against poverty.

- support to the creation and development of self-managed mutual savings and credit companies,

- functional literacy,
- support to neighborhood dynamics aiming at improving the living environment,
- teaching and functional literacy in the national language: wolof.

Association for a Dynamic of Economic and Social Progress

Date of creation: 1993, and registered as a NGO on July 14, 1995
Objectives:
- contribute to job generation through credit and training;
- help socioprofessional organizations emerge for a lasting self-promotion;
- support young and handicapped people’s socioeconomic integration;
- promote responsible, sustainable and profitable fishing in Senegal;
- promote ESC rights in Senegal.
Mission
Contribute to a sustainable socioeconomic development in Senegal.

Réseau africain pour le développement intégré - RADI
African Network for Integrated Development
Status: NGO
Date of creation: 1985
Objectives:
- promote a human-based development;
- develop the psychological conditions for the population’s political and fincancial empowerment;
- promote solidarity and social justice;
- fight poverty in order to establish a prosperous, fair, united and democratic society;
- promote the citizen’s participation and monitoring;
- promote and advocate human rights in general and ESC rights in particular.
Mission
Our mission is based on the struggle against poverty, injustice and ignorance, for an individual and collective promotion of African populations through a strategy which aims at implementing a process of integrated, participative, popular and democratic development.

- sustainable agriculture and food security;
- functional literacy in national languages;
- basic education, with grassroots community schools;

- education to health, reproductive health and community health;
- training of elected representatives in democracy, citizenship and good governance;

Resource Development Program in Senegal
Status: NGO
Date of creation: 1995
Objectives:
- promote local development through participative activities, awareness raising, the training of stakeholders, and advocacy;
- help improve learning and the equipment level through a structuration support, promote training, support marketing and the access to an appropriate financing, promote a strong and representative arts and crafts sector;
- support secondary towns’ development for a better correlation between rural and urban areas;
- support all other actions which can promote health, as well as women’s and young people’s economic integration through training, information and access to credit.

PRACTICAL ACTIONS CARRIED OUT BY THE UNIT IN THE ESC RIGHTS FIELD
Forum (November 24, 2008)
Objective: ESC rights promotion and awareness raising.
Field: the access to land and economic right.
Targets: 60 persons, mainly women.
Areas of action: “Rocbys” Pikine-Guediawaye département, in the Dakar region.
Results obtained:
Mobilization of local authorities (Mayor, town councilmen, community development representative, and sub-prefect).
Forum (November 29, 2008)
Objective: ESC rights promotion and awareness raising.
Field: Women’s access to land resources.
Targets: 70 persons, mainly women (ethnic group: lébous).
Areas of action: “Grand Mbao” in the Rufisque département – Dakar region.
Results obtained:
Co-organization with the Commune d’arrondissement and the locality’s concertation framework.
Round Table
Objective: circulate brochures and booklets of ESC rights awareness raising.
Field: ESC rights awareness raising on the 59th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948).
Targets: More than 100 trainees.
Areas of action: At “Les Mamelles”, in 0uakam –Dakar département – Dakar region.
Results obtained
Partnership with the United Nations Center, the Committee Against Violence Towards Women (Comité de lutte contre la violence faite aux femmes) and other human rights advocacy organizations, with the participation of the technical advisor of the Ministry of Justice, Mr. TALL.
Participation of the Unit’s representative in two radio broadcasts
Objective: ESC rights promotion and awareness raising.
Field: The nonrecognition of ESC rights violation cases.
Targets: listeners.
Areas of action: FM Première, AFIA FM.
Results obtained: broadcast on two radio channels.
