Introduction
The AOUDAGHOST Network’s Togo Unit was created in March 2005. It gathers 4 associations together:
- Support center for Management and Development (CAGED)
- DON BOSCO Center Togo / Kara
- Structure of support to children and girls in difficulties in Togo. (SOTCHI Kara)
- IRAD-Maluk
Unit’s status: Local representation of an international structure with a Headquarters Agreement.
The unit’s objectives are the following:
- promote ESC rights in Togo;
- create a synergy to increase the number of people enjoying their ESC rights;
- represent the network at national level;
- set-up the national ESC rights platform;
- build the capacities of people involved in the promotion of ESC rights.
Unit’s mission: contribute to economic, social and cultural rights’ institutional and practical establishment, for their protection, promotion and universal access.
Unit’s internal organization and functioning
The national unit is the Network’s local body in charge of the coordinating organization in Togo. It is composed of the Network’s member structures in Togo following the terms of the AOUDAGHOST network’s internal regulations. The members are: CAGED, Don BOSCO KARA, SOTCHI and IRAD Maluk.
The unit’s coordination, which consists in organizing activities, representing and managing funds, is entrusted (as a consensual appointment by the member structures) to one of the member structures for a renewable three-year term. The current coordinating structure is the CAGED.
The unit’s activities are carried out according to three-year action plans developed and financed with the support of the General Coordination.
The unit’s main results
- evaluation of the ESC rights knowledge and enjoyment in Togo; awareness raising in the Kara and Maritime Regions in terms of ESC rights knowledge;
- set-up of a national NGO network for the promotion of ESC rights; unit members’ capacity building;
- important work of mobilization of the other structures and civil society organizations resulting in the creation of an ESC rights platform on September 19, 2008;
- concerning the activities carried out by each member structure, the programs focused a lot on the awareness raising and information of grassroots partners regarding ESC rights.

grassroots partnership: the unit’s grassroots partners are those of the member-structures.
Affiliations: for now, the unit is not affiliated to any organization, except the ESC rights Platform composed of a dozen structures or civil society organizations.
Strategic plan/perspectives for the next five years
Generally speaking, the unit’s perspectives in terms of strategy are planned for three years (2009- 2011) and cover:
- the organization and implementation of the drafting process of civil society’s shadow report on ESC rights;
- the organization and implementation of ESC rights promotion activities in Togo (awareness raising, information, education, lobbying the State authorities for the ratification of the Optional Protocal that has just been adopted, etc.);
- the consolidation of the emerging ESC rights Platform.

Support Center for Management and Development

Date of creation: October 29, 1996
Objectives:
- teach master and apprentice craftsmen to read and write,
- help craftsmen who are finishing their apprenticeship to settle,
- work towards the integration of arts and crafts into the country development.
Mission
Ensure the social promotion of young people by helping them get a job through professional training.
Field of action
Professional training of young people removed from school.
Areas of action: the Maritime Region.
Targets
Young people removed from school.
DON Bosco Togo/ Kara
Status: International Association
Setting-up date: July 28, 1993
Objective
Help young people, especially the poorest, access a professional training that guarantees them a dignified future.
Mission
Help young people, especially the poorest, get out of their situation and no longer have a compromised future.
Field of action
Professional training of young people, especially the poorest.
Areas of action: the Kara and Maritime Regions.
Targets
Young people, especially the poorest.
Structure d’Appui au Développement des Enfants et des jeunes Filles en Difficulté au Togo (SOTCHI)
Structure of support to children and girls in difficulties in Togo
Status: Association loi 1901
Date of creation: 1998
Objective
Enable vulnerable girls and children to have a successful socioprofessional integration.
Mission
Encourage girls in difficulties and vulnerable children by giving them the possibility to take care of themselves.
Fields of action
- Girl’s schooling
- Advocacy of domestic staff’s rights
- Struggle against child trafficking
Areas of action: the Kara Region.
Targets
Vulnerable girls and children.
IRAD Maluk
Status: Association loi 1901
Date of creation: April 15, 1997
Objectives:
- encourage private initiatives,
- contribute to community development and social justice,
- promote the art of negotiation in every conflict.
Mission
Contribute to a development of society with a human face, in a spirit of nonviolence.

PRACTICAL ACTIONS CARRIED OUT BY THE UNIT IN THE ESC RIGHTS FIELD
Support-accompaniement towards an ESC rights enjoyment by social classes in difficulties
- support-advice to the households victims of the sociopolitical troubles of April-May 2005;
- additional material support to the most affected households;
- facilitation of administrative steps in delivering suppletory judgements for adults’ birth certificates.
Objective
Enable vulnerable people who are denied their rights to really enjoy their ESC rights.
Field: ESC rights’ enjoyment.
Targets: vulnerable people.
Areas of action: Kara , Lomé and Atakpamé.
Results obtained:
- additional material support to 4 households, that are, 20 people;
- 57 households were accompanied (advice and orientation) during the events of April 2005;
- about thirty (30) people obtained their birth certificates, mostly in Kara.
Study on ESC rights carried out in Togo
Objective
Evaluate the level of ESC rights’ knowledge and enjoyment in Togo.
Field: Studies and research.
Targets: different socioprofessional categories.
Areas of action: Lomé.
Results obtained
Milestone evaluation of the level of ESC rights’ knowledge in Togo.
Awareness raising and information of partners in the Kara and Maritime regions in terms ESC rights knowledge
Objective
Help improve grassroots people’s knowledge on ESC rights.
Field: Information on ESC rights.
Targets
Structures partners and their bases in those regions.
Areas of action: Kara and Lomé.
Results obtained
CSOs and their grassroots partners are more and more informed on – and pay a lot more attention to - ESC rights matters.
Set-up of a national NGO network for the promotion of ESC rights: creation of the ESC rights platform
Objective
Create the necessary structural and strategic synergy for the promotion of ESC rights in Togo.
Field: Organization / structuration.
Targets
The country’s civil society organizations (CSOs).
Areas of action: Lomé, Kara, Sokodé, Dapaong.
Results obtained
New ESC rights dynamics emerged as one of the population’s and CSOs’ major concerns in Togo.
Training of the unit members of the CSOs that were to participate in the creation of the platform, regarding the ICESCR and alternative reports’ drafting techniques
Objective
Build the unit members’ technical capacities.
Field: ESC rights training.
Targets
The unit members plus other national CSOs.
Aera of action: Lomé.
Results obtained
About thirty (30) delegates of the involved structures benefited from this capacity building.
