Right to food : presentation

Governments should take action at the national level to build an enabling environment for people to feed themselves in dignity and to establish appropriate safety nets for those who are unable to do so.

Civil society should, in a joint effort with Governments, work towards advancing the right to food and building the capacity of right holders and duty bearers alike.

Empowerment

It is integral to any strategy that moves away from the benevolence model of food aid and instead emphasises enabling environments that support people in feeding themselves.

See steps for implementation

1. targeting the hungry and the poor
2. conducting a thorough assessment
3. sound food security strategy
4. elaborating a framework law
5. allocating obligations and responsabilities
6. monitoring
7. establishing recourse mechanisms.
